PRINCIPLE
OF OPERATION :
The encoders use (normally infra red) emitter
– detector pair to create a light source, which passes
through a disc made of transparent and opaque windows on its
periphery. The rotation of the disk prepares a stream of pulses
at the detector end which is pulse shaped to give digital
output in various forms. One light stream comprises of 1 channel.
More channels can be added around the same disk to give more
outputs. These are basically used as components to give feedback
in digital form.
The encoders are normally divided into -
1. Absolute Encoders: An encoder, which shows absolute (encoded)
position of the load &
2. Incremental encoders: which give proportional output on
increment of position of the load.
We offer only incremental ones and hence the following details
are devoted for the same.
The incremental encoders have gained wide acceptance and are
increasingly used because of wide usage in different applications,
increased usage of digital electronics, ease in usage, economic
pricing, small size, etc.
Encoders give information of speed, direction, position also
rate of change of speed / position which is vital in today’s
industrial operations.

OUTPUT
STAGE :
PMP ELEC offers encoders with different
types of output stages.
A. Transistor Output :
Incase of unspecified / default
stage: NPN.
Inverted logic: PNP
These are used for low PPR, low accuracy and low current requirements.
B. Open Collecto r:
These are used where additional
current capacity, better waveforms, better immunity to noise
is required. One more advantage is the supply of the encoder
and the external supply where the collector is tied up can be
different.
C. Line Driver :
Will normally be used in pair of
transmitter-receiver. Customer has to have suitable line driver
at the reception of pulses.
This format will give enhanced current driving capacity and
is normally used when signal is driven through long cables,
with high noise immunity requirement. These circuits have faster
response time, which can be used in high PPR resolutions.
D. Push – Pull :
This is again current amplifier,
which gives higher capacities of current that is suitable for
hostile environments. This will offer good pulse formation,
high noise immunity etc.
